A Boat License Is Needed In Your State

Obtaining a New Jersey boat license can easily be done at your own convenience. The requirements for a license are met by passing a state approved boating safety course. A boating certificate is required for an operators who is age 13 or above to legally operate a boat.

The process of obtaining a certificate can be done in three easy steps. The first step is to locate a course that is in your area. This is done by visiting the NJ Department of Law and Public Safety website. You will find a link to the boating certificate FAQ that in on the left side of the page.

One website that you can use to find a boating course is BoatUS Foundation. There is a link on the left of the page for Find a Course in Your Area. Click this link to go to the search page. Complete all of the required information on the page to find a boating course that is close.

You need to choose your state from the drop down. You will then enter your Zip Code and then a radius or area to search. A list results is displayed when you click the Search button. Some sites may offer you an online boating safety course.

Search the BoatUS Foundation website for the exam locator page. This page allows you to search for a proctored exam in your area. A proctored exam is an exam that has a monitor. The exam will consist of about 50 questions that require written answers.

Successful completion of the safety course exam will earn you a new jersey boat license. You can keep the certificate inside of the boat anytime that you take it out on the water. The certificate will need to be with you anytime that boats are being operated.
